For the first GLAAWC Anthology, we are seeking fiction, nonfiction, and poetry that recount instances and experiences when an individual or a whole community is subjected to disapproval, censure, and/or punishment (e. g., termination, disbarment, excommunication, removal from membership rolls, wrongful prosecution, censorship, cancellation, shunning, being banned, recalled and/or disregarded) by the majority for challenging or going against or beyond expected and accepted norms. This can be from a personal, political, social, or historical perspective.

All writers throughout the midwestern Heartland are invited to submit original works.

We welcome and encourage submissions from writers across the racial and ethnic spectrum. While our core mission is centered on the Black experience and cultural discourse, we believe in the power of shared dialogue and diverse perspectives to enrich our content. Submissions from all writers will be considered, provided the work aligns clearly with our editorial vision and commitment to the Black community.

The work must never have been published in another publication.

• Include the title of the work, your name, geographic location, title, and contact information.
• The maximum length for poetry is 3,000 words, There is no minimum.
• The length for nonfiction and short stories is 4,000 – 7,000 words. Firm.
• Selected poems (or collection of poems from a single poet) will receive $100.
• Selected works of non-fiction and short stories will receive $250.
• There is no limit on submissions.
• Deadline for Submissions: Priority will be given to submissions received by March 31, 2026. 

Manuscript Preparation Guidelines

• Font: 12-point Times New Roman, Arial, or Courier.
• Margins: 1-inch on all sides.
• Spacing: Double-spaced throughout the document.
• Paragraphs: Indent the first line of each paragraph by 0.5 inches.
• Justification: Left-justify the text.
• Page numbers: Should be included, starting from the title page. 
• Title Page: Should include the title, authors’ names, geographical location, and contact information.
• File format: Manuscripts must be submitted as a Word document.
